Remembering the Duke of Edinburgh

Following the sad announcement of the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, many will wish to remember him in prayer and to pray too for The Queen, the Royal Family and all who mourn.  With all the Churches in the land, we in Greenstead and St Anne’s share in giving thanks for the late Duke’s life and for his service to the nation and the Commonwealth.
The Church of England has published an online book of condolence which can be signed here.

Holy Week and Easter Services Information

Holy Week and Easter is the most important week in the Christian calendar, and in Greenstead our churches are journeying with Jesus towards the cross and Resurrection as follows;

Palm Sunday – Sunday 14th April

  • St Matthew’s @ 9.30am
  • St Anne’s @ 9.30am
  • St Andrew’s @ 11.00am

We start Holy Week on Palm Sunday, where we hear the bible account of Jesus’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, and the crowds welcoming their King. Palm crosses will be given out at the service which will last around 1 hour.

Stations of the Cross – Monday 15th April

  • St Andrew’s @ 7.30pm

Praying the stations of the cross has a long tradition in the Christian church. During this short time of worship last around 45 minutes we will remember Jesus’s journey to the cross using images to help us in our reflection.

Reflective Services – Tuesday 16th & Wednesday 17th April

  • Tuesday at St Matthews’s @ 7.30pm
  • Wednesday at St Anne’s @ 7.30pm

We continue our journey through Holy Week with two reflective services which will explore Jesus’s final week before his death. Each will last approximately 40 minutes.

Holy Communion and Foot Washing – Maundy Thursday 18th April

  • St Andrew’s @ 7.30pm

At this service we remember Jesus’s last supper and his instructions to the disciples to remember him through the bread and wine. There is also an opportunity for those who would like to participate in foot washing in remembering Jesus’s servant attitude.

Messy Church – Good Friday 19th April

  • St Matthew’s @ 10.00am – 11.30am

See Facebook for details.

Last Hour at the Cross – Good Friday 19th April

Dawn Eucharist – Easter Morning Sunday 21st April
